Nowadays if you want access to a beta you’re going to have to jump through a few hoops. Whether it be preordering the game or registering for the beta and hoping you get in, it’s usually not a fun experience getting into these betas. EA and DICE are not going this route though, as the Star Wars Battlefront beta will be open to everyone on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting October 8.
The open beta will run from October 8 to October 12 on all platforms. The beta will feature three game modes spread across three maps, which include:
- Walker Assault on Hoth, a 40-person war where you either have to attack or destroy AT-AT walkers;
- Drop Zone on Sullust, where two teams of 8 fight for control of falling escape pods, and;
- Survival Mission on Tatooine, an either single player or co-op mode where players have to fend off hordes of enemies.
During the beta period, players will also be able to try out the Star Wars Battlefront Companion Experience, where players will be able to play “the strategic card game Base Command, and lets you earn in-game Credits that unlock Star Cards, weapons, and more in Star Wars Battlefront.”
This isn’t very surprising that EA and DICE would have an open beta for Battlefront. DICE has had open betas many times in the past for Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline, so it only makes sense for Battlefront to have an open beta. This also maybe a reactionary move on EA’s part, since Activision’s open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III did so well. Either way it’s awesome that Battlefront has an open beta and I can’t wait to check it out in just a couple weeks!
Star Wars Battlefront is scheduled to be released on November 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
